Brands of food I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I recommend these brands because they have veterinary nutritionists on staff to make sure the food is balanced correctly, they meet AAFCO standards, and they run feeding trials. It's fine to mix wet and dry food together, but I would keep them the same brand to avoid GI upset in Chewy. I hope this helps!

Dry food is the most convenient food for us and also the least expensive, so that has been the most common way to feed dogs. There are a number of companies that now offer fresh food diets to various degrees. One of my favorite options is dehydrated food from The Honest Kitchen which is both convenient and good quality. In general, canned food tends to be a little higher quality than dry food. They are not limited by the restrictions that require enough carbohydrates to be put into a dry food. But feeding canned food alone can be very expensive for a large dog, so most people feed a combination of canned and dry. If you do that, make sure that Leo eats all the food at once and doesn't leave some kibble coated with canned food for later (which can be a problem for bacterial growth). I would also recommend a slow transition with any diet changes. I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Hello. You have quite a very handsome group of pups! The best dog foods most vets will recommend are those made by Purina, Hill's Science Diet & Royal Canin. I personally feed mine Purina One True Instincts. These may not be the very cheapest foods out there, but they are definitely more reasonable than the incredibly high priced boutique foods which are no better than the basics. Hope your guys do well & thanks for using Boop by Petco.

The premium and super premium brands typically use higher quality ingredients (named protein sources, no meat meals, etc.) and have less fillers or additives. The discount or store brands frequently use lower quality ingredients as well as grains in addition to more fillers and additives. These ingredients may contribute to allergies and increased inflammation in a pet. That said, if a pet won't eat a premium brand or suffers GI upset from them, then all those positives won't matter. I always recommend feeding the best quality food you can afford, is easy to buy and that a pet will eat and does well on. If that happens to be a lower quality diet, so be it. The website www.dogfoodadvisor.com an excellent resource for researching and comparing diets.
