Thanks for reaching out. Birds typically lay eggs first thing in the morning, therefore an egg laid in the evening is delayed. This could be due to illness, egg binding, malnutrition and other. The best answer is to see a veterinarian. Providing heat support in the 80-85 F range can give support. Offering water through a syringe for hydration. If coelom (abdomen) is swollen, she still could be egg bound. Placing in a steamy bathroom for 5-10 minutes could help. Review diet as calcium deficiencies often play a part in egg binding, so dark leafy greens should be part of the diet. Good luck.

It looks like it may indeed be of the Warbler species. These birds typically eat insects, so small crickets or mealworms would be recommended. Ideally, you should contact a local wildlife rehabilitator for assistance. A rehabber will have the knowledge and experience to give the bird the best chance at eventual release.

If the skin is broken and bleeding, Lemon Drop is at risk for infection. Even if you have no local avian veterinarian, a small animal vet should be able to treat her. A specialist can be consulted online or by phone. The antibiotics and medications used are similar, just the dose is much smaller. A small e-collar (cone) may need to be fashioned to prevent her from plucking. In the meantime, lean and sanitize the cage, bowls, toys and perches. Discard anything that cannot be sanitized. Use paper towels on the cage bottom and change them daily to keep the cage clean. Provide a variety of toys and treats to keep her distracted from picking. Bathe or mist her with warm water a few times a week to promote preening and healthy skin and plumage.

You should take it to a wildlife rescue, but I am afraid it will likely die. You can try warming it up in a shoe box with a warm water bottle (or put warm water in plastic water bottle. But it is probably not savable. This is "survival of the fittest". Nature is cruel.

Do you know of any "virtual" vet exam sites? I can't get in to see a vet until tomorrow and my chicken is having a really hard time breathing and eating. She's wheezing like mad. :( Can you prescribe medicine over the internet for her?
Unfortunately it is not permmitted to prescribe medications without an in-person examination. If Della is having a hard time breathing you can try to see if there is an emergency veterinarian in your area that can see her sooner than tomorrow. Keeping her separated from the flock in a small pen that is cool and dark with access to food and water may help her long enough until you can get to the vet.
