Would you recommend to give beef jerky (homemade with only one ingredient: meat. No salt, no spices.) to puppies and dogs as treats?
Hi there and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco! While a very small limited amount of salt/spice free beef jerky is okay as a treat once in a while, feeding more frequently may cause an upset stomach and also may be too many calories and fat. There are a lot healthier treat alternatives out there such as a small amount of green beans, carrots, or even blueberries and apples are tasty treats without all the fat and extra calories. what are your thoughts on the chicken jerky scare involving brands like waggin train, milos kitchen, canyon creek, cadet, etc. are these brands dangerous for dogs and should they be avoided? Please explain, as there has been a lot of confusion regard
This was a problem back in 2014/2015. Is that what you are referring to? I think they have resolved the issue. I have not heard of any recent problems. I would only give treats made in the USA. I believe the ones causing issues were made in China. If it were my dogs, I would make my own treats instead of buying them.

I have a 5 month old Pomsky puppy. I want to feed her healthy treats while I'm training her. Would you be able to tell me a little bit about the ingredients? Like what to look for and what to avoid? Thanks in advance!
A few general recommendations: stick with well known brands with a good reputation. Look for products made in the USA. Kibble works great for treats and I use Purina Pro Plan chicken or lamb and rice. Dry biscuit type treats usually have less calories and salt. The jerky or moist type treats are fine in moderation (they have more calories and salt usually). Lastly, many dogs really like dehydrated chicken livers and chicken jerky. Well I personally like Beggin Strips. My dogs love them, and there is no chance of a choking hazard. I never recommend rawhides due to choking and obstruction concerns. Normally I'd recommend pig ears, but I understand there is a salmonella outbreak now with pig ears. I don't do many treats because they really aren't needed.

Hi Diana, I have not yet tried the Nylabone Healthy Edibles with my dogs, but I just looked at the ingredients and think they might be a nice treat for Joey. Certainly, I always recommend monitoring a dog with any edible chew because they will sometimes bite off too large of a chunk, but I suspect that will be less of a problem with the Healthy Edibles than some of the other chew options on the market.
