Should I switch my dog and cat from Hill's Science Diet to Wellness?

In my opinion, Wellness is not as good a food as Hill's Science Diet and I agree with the recommendation of your vet's office to keep your dog and cat on Hill's. Hill's has better ingredients and is overall a better quality food. In addition, the truth is that grain free food is really a fad. Only about 5% of dogs have food allergies, and of these dogs, the major of the food allergies are protein. Grain allergies are actually extremely rare, and I only recommend feeding a pet a grain free food if they have a diagnosed grain allergy. I personally recommend keeping your pets on Hill's. Hello and thank you for using Pet Coach to address your concerns with Sirius. Royal Canin is a very high quality food that I find many dogs digest easily. I would not be surprised that you are noticing a difference. I think Wellness Core is a good food but maybe its a little more rich than Sirius is use to. There is another brand called California Naturals that you could try if you want a switch. Pick the low fat one obviously! Hope this helps!

Real Nature seems to be a very high quality food, it is not one i am familiar with but the ingredient list is quite impressive. if he is doing well on this brand i would probably stick with it. other excelent options include Orijen, Acana and taste of the wild.

Best grain-free, high-protein dog food for sensitive skin & stomach?

As far as commercial breeds that come to mind, Wellness would be a good choice to meet your requirements. It is a little pricey, but I feel that it is a very high quality diet. A raw diet would also be an option, but would definitely require a significant amount of financial and time investment (though there are commercially available raw diets as well now). I agree that it can be a challenge to find the right food for your dog - I have just been through this myself, and it's not easy! Wellness is a good brand, but it would seem that Alvin isn't tolerating it very well. It would help me to know a bit more about what exactly you're looking for, however in terms of general recommendations on foods that I like to recommend, I like the Science Diet and the Ideal Balance lines from Hills, as well as the WholeHearted foods. However, If Alvin truly has a food allergy, he will need to be on a prescription food that eliminates the common allergens (chicken, beef, wheat, corn). You might also look into Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach, as I think a lot of dogs tolerate that diet and do very well on it. Good luck!
