I feel like Wellness fits all of those categories pretty well. I guess affordable is a very relative term, but if you are only feeding one cat, one of the large cans should last you a bit. This is what I feed to my three adult cats and they all love it. You will definitely need to go to a pet food store, tractor supply, or an online supplier to obtain this food rather than a supermarket usually. Hill's also makes pretty good quality (has a grain free line) food, but I don't think their wet food is smooth like you requested. Anyway, hope this helps!

Wellness, Weruva and Royal Canin are all good choices. When it comes to a canned food, look for one with a named protein source of animal (not plant) origin. Choose a food that comes from the can looking like a hockey puck. Avoid foods with gravies or sauces. These are typically higher in carbs which can predispose a cat to obesity. Avoid meat meals, by-products as well as store or discount brands. These latter two contain low quality ingredients and more fillers.

In my opinion, Wellness is not as good a food as Hill's Science Diet and I agree with the recommendation of your vet's office to keep your dog and cat on Hill's. Hill's has better ingredients and is overall a better quality food. In addition, the truth is that grain free food is really a fad. Only about 5% of dogs have food allergies, and of these dogs, the major of the food allergies are protein. Grain allergies are actually extremely rare, and I only recommend feeding a pet a grain free food if they have a diagnosed grain allergy. I personally recommend keeping your pets on Hill's. I hope this helps!

In general, you should avoid any grain free diets. Pets generally don't have allergies to grains and I recommend to feed a high quality diet such as Purina ProPlan, Science Diet or Royal Canin. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your cats. It would be just fine to feed the Wellness canned food and the Wilderness dry, if that is what they prefer. Each dry cat food has a different amount of calories per cup though. So monitor them for any gain or loss of weight. To prevent this, you may need to adjust the daily amount of kibble offered. I hope this information helps!
