Hi, I am preparing to adopt an adult Alaskan klee kai. She is between 18 and 20 pounds. I currently live in Phoenix, AZ, but may be moving in the near future. I am trying to determine which flea/tick and heartworm preventatives may be best for her. I
Congratulations on your new dog! I like Revolution if you are looking for a topical product. It consistently works well and is well tolerated. If you like the idea of an oral product better, I like Trifexis (it’s another all in one product). Sometimes though the pets can smell the Trifexis and they won’t eat it. In that instance, I like Simparica and Interceptor. My personal preference is oral products. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

My 2 small dogs have been Trifexis for the past 1 to 2 years but last month it stopped working & they're covered in fleas! What should I switch to?
Oh no! Fleas are not a fun surprise! Trifexis prevents fleas, heartworms and some intestinal parasites. Since this isn't working for you, I typically recommend using either Nexgard, Bravecto or K9 Advantix II as flea and tick prevention. Please note that Nexgard and Bravecto are prescription-based (like the Trifexis), so these would need to be obtained by Prince's vet. Prince and his friend will also need to start a separate heartworm prevention, such as Heartgard or Interceptor, but again, these are prescription-based. Until you can pick up these new medications, you can bathe both dogs in original blue Dawn dish soap because this will help to kill the existing adult fleas. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

My dog has been on Trifexsis for 5 months now and I am still having flea problems. I washed him the other night and got 40 fleas off. Also, he's biting, scratching and licking himself constantly. What should i do?
Trifexis has a product guarantee if you purchased it from your vet, so I would recommend contacting your vet to get the guarantee started and decide on a treatment plan for the fleas. I just adopted a dog at Petco and Humane society had given her Sentinel. Should we keep her on that or can I switch her to Trifexis, since that's what we give our other dog & I already order through Dr.'s Foster & Smith? Thanks.
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Switching to Trifexis is fine. Just be aware that Trifexis doesn't get ticks (neither does Sentinel, it is just heartworm, GI parasites and sterilized female fleas). I hope this helps!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. Yes, there are lots of other non-topical flea and tick prevention options. Nexgard and Bravecto have oral chews that dogs can eat as treats. Nexgard is monthly whereas Bravecto is every 3 months. Both of these prevent against fleas and ticks. Heartgard is an oral medication that protects against heartworm and other intestinal parasites. There is a Seresto collar that can be worm by dogs to prevent flea and tick infections for up to 8 months. I recommend reaching out to your local vet to see which products they have available.
