I am wanting to purchase a dog from an online ad. This wouldn't be my first option... I know adopting from rescues and breeders are better but I have yet to find a dog that meets my preferences in a shelter & don't have enough money for an expensive
It's great that you're trying to plan ahead and make sure you're asking good questions! I'm not sure what breed you're looking at, but in general, I would definitely consider saving up a bit to purchase a puppy from a reputable breeder if you can. Even if the purchase price is a bit higher than a puppy from an online ad, getting a pup from a more reliable source can save you a lot of heartache (and money!) down the line by avoiding costly health issues and behavioral problems due to poor breeding. If you do opt to go ahead and purchase a puppy through on ad online, I would talk to the breeder/seller about the following things: 1) Make sure the puppies are AKC registered. Even if you want "just a pet", no responsible breeder would be breeding dogs that aren't AKC registered. It's a big red flag that you're dealing with a puppy mill or really careless backyard breeder. 2) Ask what health clearances the puppies' parents have had, and ask to see documentation. Dachshunds tend to be snugglers, and also love to be buried (like under a blanket!). I'd look into a dog bed (or even a large cat bed) that has a [clamshell or hooded design](https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/harmony-hooded-cave-cat-bed-in-grey) that she can crawl into and be covered up by it. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Congrats on your new puppy! There is no one best answer here. If you ask 10 people you'll likely get 10 different answers. I always recommend going with your gut but being open to modifying your plan based on the puppies personality. When I got my rescue dog at 9 months, my plan was to crate him downstairs but he barked and I couldn't sleep. So I brought him upstairs and he has slept on a dog bed on the floor ever since. I think you should list out what is acceptable and what isn't (allowed on the bed/furniture or isn't, crated or not crated) and then make that the goal and stick to it. Whether you have the crate in your room temporarily and then move it somewhere else can depend on how needy Samson is in the beginning. Are you willing to let him "cry it out" or not. I am a fan of trying to set up a routine early so they get used to that. He will be needy the first several days but then should start to adjust and you can get stricter. I hope this

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I personally like the Purina Pro Plan diets as well as the Hill's Science Diet foods as I think they are both palatable and highly nutritious. In terms of treats, I think the milk bones products are both nutritious, palatable and reasonably priced. Good luck and best wishes!
