Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. You should monitor Purl for symptoms of vomiting, lethargy, lack of appetite, tremors, problems with balance. If you notice any of these signs, you should get your puppy checked by your local vets right away. According to the manufacturer's data the symptoms are NOT likely to develop after ingesting this dose. You should give your bigger dog another tablet to get the right dose for 22-44 pound weight (that should be 24mg of sarolaner, moxidectinum 0.48mg and pyrantelum 100mg).

Is it safe to combine Trifexis and Simparica for my dog?
It is ok to give trifexis and simparica together (staggered by 2 weeks is great). Both of those medications will protect against fleas so there is some overlap with that. If you want to streamline how many medications you are giving Dakota monthly, Another option would be to use sentinel or interceptor instead of the trifexis and give with that with simparica monthly. These products contain the same heart worm preventative (milbemycin) as trifexis but do not contain any medication to kill adult fleas. (Trifexis contains both the milbemycin for heart worm prevention and Spinosad for fleas). That way you would be giving one medication for heart worm prevention (sentinel or interceptor ) and one for flea and tick prevention (simparica). Another option is to continue trifexis and add in a tick collar (such as the preventic collar or the seresto collar). I know there are so many products and options it is confusing ! If you are worried your pet have ingested something toxic you need to call your local veterinary emergency clinic or ASPCA Animal Poison Control as we cannot guarantee a prompt response. Some toxicities are true emergencies and can be fatal. ( https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control ) Typically speaking most (not all) animals that ingest a double dose of a preventive medication are safe however, not all animals react to medications the same way. The best you can do if it has been more than an hour since he ingested it is to watch for symptoms of toxicity like: tremors, seizures, ataxia (walking drunk/unsteady), extreme lethargy, vomiting, etc. If you notice any symptoms get him to an emergency clinic ASAP. As an aside, according to studies done by Zoetis who make Simparica, "In the overdose groups, transient and self-limiting neurological signs were observed in some animals: mild tremors at 3 times the maximum exposure dose and convulsions at 5 times the maximum exposure dose. All dogs recovered without treatment." Again, this won't hold true for every individual. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

The active ingredient in Simparica is sarolaner. At this time, there are no known drug interactions reported with sarolaner. I would therefore use a spot on treatment for fleas and ticks like Frontline or K9 Advantix II. I hope this helps!
