A 10 gallon tank can be purchased in the local Petco for less than twenty dollars ( https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/fish/fish-aquariums-kits/aquariums-up-to-ten-gallons/aqueon-standard-glass-aquarium-tank-10-gallon ). It would be easier to keep and secure than a laundry hamper. Given the temps required for geckos, plastic may not be the best option either. You will need a a heat lamp for day use and maybe a heat source if nighttime temperatures drop below 70 F. You can use slate, reptile carpet, plain paper towels or a coconut fiber substrate. Leopard geckos are great "starter" reptiles. They don't require special lighting (UVB) like other reptiles. A 20 gallon tank is big enough for one. Add a heat source, hides and a water bowl and you are good to go. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This is definitely OK! It is possible he was handled frequently before you got him, so he is already used to being handled. He may also just have a personality where he isn't afraid of being picked up. As a reminder, geckos can carry infections that can make humans sick, so always wash your hands well after handling him! I hope this is helpful.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is likely that you will be able to help him. However, I would recommend you consider taking him to your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment first. They can at least assess the situation and recommend therapy accordingly which you may then continue at home. Best of luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

Hello! Tokay geckos are not very social pets. Regardless of handling and training over time, some species are still very difficult to tame and are more "look but don't touch" pets. Most Tokay geckos would fall into this category. Some people enjoy having pets like this, and some do not. I am only saying this as it sounds like you may be a bit discouraged by his lack of social behavior, but it likely has nothing to do with your handling skills and everything to do with his biology. Petco works to adopt out surrendered pets frequently and would be happy to help rehome your gecko. I would recommend calling your local store to discuss the situation and a staff member should be able to help guide you through the process. I hope you find this helpful! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
