My dog Dexter is a rescue and although I don’t know much about his medical history, I’ve noticed he might have some trouble with his skin. A vet on this site (thank you Dr. Elizabeth from the U.S.) recommended I start giving him omega 3 fatty acids.

Feed as many pellets as would fit in her head if it was empty. Do this once daily. Offer greens daily, in the morning about 2 hours after the heat/light comes on. Supplement with a multivitamin and calcium supplement several times a week. I like Rep-Cal HerptiVite and Rep-Cal Calcium (w/o D3 as long as she has UVB lighting). An incandescent bulb or spot light will be sufficient for use as a heat lamp. Use thermometers or an infrared temperature gun to monitor ambient temp and basking spot temp.

Your options include returning her for exam and treatment if indicated, exchanging her completely or taking her to your own veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles for an exam. Keep him warm and as stress free as possible. If he is on loose substrate, switch him to slate, paper towels or reptile carpeting to prevent material from sticking to his vent. Submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites.

My leopard gecko may have early signs of kidney disease. The vet says the xrays were fine and he looks healthy and gave me some omega 3 to give my gecko. He is 18 yrs old. What can I do at home via diet, soaking etc to help him heal? I have found
Soak once or twice weekly in a warm 50/50 solution of water and unflavored PediaLyte. Feed lower protein prey (mealworms, nightcrawlers, crickets). Avoid high protein prey such as locusts, dubia roaches and waxworms. Blood work may need to be monitored to track progression. Further treatment (steroids, phosphate binders, calcium supplements, fluid therapy) will depend on status. The waxy substance may be normal secretions from the pre anal pores. This is used for marking branches and letting other geckos know who is in the area.
