The Internet says a lot of things. Petfood is one of those issues that people can have a lot of convictions about. However the question is have those individuals had actual training about pet nutrition. In making choices about pet food, I often look at a history of recalls. Newer pet food companies and boutique brands are more likely to have recall issues because they tend to not have as much quality control in the production of their food. Mistakes do happen and any company can have a recall but that is something to pay very close attention to. The older, more established companies tend to have good protocols in place to catch any errors before their food gets out on the shelves and pets get sick. I believe Nutro does offer a line of pet food that is more holistically-based as well. You should be able to find a lot of variety within the brand and know that it is all high-quality. Most pets who eat Nutro tend to have good coat and stool quality too, this is a good sign. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think that would be an excellent choice for that purpose for Poli. That is generally a well tolerated and well-balanced diet that tends to be well-tolerated. Good luck and best wishes!

I think Blue Buffalo is a decent brand of dog food but I see many dogs who end up with diarrhea issues on it. Nutro is a good one that can offer some more holistic dog food. Natural Balance is another one that most dogs seem to do very well on. Take a look at either one of these brands. Lastly, by-products are not bad. By-products are the parts of the carcass that humans don’t generally eat like the internal organs. The internal organs tend to contain most of the vitamins and minerals within the body so in the wild, these are sought out by predators. That’s why I never get too excited about by-products in a meal. I do like to see though that two out of the top three ingredients within a diet are meat-based. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions!

I personally prefer Nutro. It tastes good so dogs and puppies like it and in general it is lower in calories so it's an excellent food to stay on lifelong without becoming overweight. I find a brand I like, and that my dog likes, and I stay with that brand for the life of the dog. I do not like switching brands all the time, it can cause stomach upset and make fussy eaters. I go from puppy, to adult, to less active if needed, then senior all in the same brand. Nutro has excellent choices in all of the different age categories. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Sienna.

As far as commercial breeds that come to mind, Wellness would be a good choice to meet your requirements. It is a little pricey, but I feel that it is a very high quality diet. A raw diet would also be an option, but would definitely require a significant amount of financial and time investment (though there are commercially available raw diets as well now). Hope this helps.
