Feeding your pet a quality food shouldn't break the bank. Use these tips to find the right diet, and price point, for your pet's meals.
Veterinarians should carry therapeutic diets with extra fiber- Hills makes W/D and Royal Canin makes Fiber Response. If you just want an over the counter food, like for a senior or mature formula, they tend to have a higher fiber content. Kisses to George!
You can feed her any good quality wet food, preferably pate style, and add some canned pumpkin. Or search for "High Fiber Canned Cat Food" in your browser. The ROYAL CANIN Feline Gastrointestinal HE canned cat food is one, for example.
Here are two good options: Royal Canin Veterinary Diet® Feline Gastrointestinal Fiber Response dry cat food Royal Canin Veterinary Diet® Feline Calorie Control CC™ High Fiber canned cat food You can also add small amounts of bran or canned pumpkin to your kitty's wet food...start with very small amounts and increase slowly.
In my clinical experience high fibre food is most effective in managing chronic constipation in cats. You will find many brands of high-fiber food for cats on the market. You could try Royal Canine Gastrointestinal Fibre Response, Iams Proactive Health or Hill's Indoor With High Fiber. You would have to wait about 4-8 weeks on high-fiber food to see improvement. Good luck.
Instead of switching food I would first start with adding a tablespoon of plain canned pumpkin to each meal. That is natural fiber and most cats like it and eat it readily. Adjust the amount so the stool is larger, softer and he goes to the bathroom at least once daily. You can also open a capsule of plain Metamucil and sprinkle it on the food to increase fiber. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for Oliver.
