Feed a commercial pelleted diet (Harrison's, Roudybush, Lafeber, Pretty Bird or Exact) supplemented with a small amount of a fortified seed mix, fresh greens and vegetables and cooked foods such as grains, beans and pastas. You can even offer a bit of scrambled eggs, shells included, occasionally.

Harrison's bird food is the best pelleted bird food on the market in my opinion. Most avian vets recommend it and feed it to their own birds. For more information, here is their web address: https://www.harrisonsbirdfoods.com/

I see that you posted this question a while back, and I answered it there, so I'll repost my answer here for you to be sure you get it. Patience and time! Until he's 100% on his training, be sure to always reward with a treat. However, if he's perfect at it with a treat every time, you can start to wean off them. You can try luring him with the treat to get him to perch, and then start only giving him treats intermittently. If he doesn't know when he's getting a treat and when he isn't, he may be more inclined to keep trying in the hopes he gets one sometimes. You can also use a favorite toy to play with, a gentle pet in a place he enjoys, or some of his regular food instead as a "treat" while you're phasing out the real ones.

Pellets are the best to feed birds. I don't know what website your sister was reading. An all seed diet is considered bad. As a guideline, most budgies can be maintained on 1.5 - 2 level measure teaspoons of seeds per bird, per day in a shallow dish, depending on the size of the bird. If there are any seeds left over in the dish at the end of the day, it suggests that too many seeds were offered originally. Seeds are more like a "treat" than anything compromising maybe 5% of the diet. They should not be the main staple. Pellets have been developed to meet all the bird's nutritional needs. Pellets are the ideal diet. Pellets should ideally represent approximately 75-80% of the bird's diet. Fruits, vegetables and greens should account for approximately 20 - 25% of the daily diet. They must be washed thoroughly to remove chemicals. Cut them into manageable pieces depending on the size of the bird. Offer fruits and vegetables in a separate dish. If your bird appears to develop a pa
