What food is good for cats who are five years old ?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! There are several diets available in the market as you have probably noticed. I personally prefer Purina, Royal canin and Science Diet foods as they are of high quality and have research to back up their use. Any of their variations should be good for Maddi. Hi and thanks for posting. A brand that comes to mind that may be what you are looking for is Sojos which is freeze dried food. You add a small amount of water to it and the food pieces are on the softer side but not mushy. I hope this helps!

Any food from a name brand source, science diet, Purina, Iams, royal canin, are typically well balanced for cats. There is specific label that says AAFCO.. you do want to make sure this on there as it means it was tested and approved to standards. Each company makes certain formulas and flavors that you can pick from to select the best ingredients you want such as natural balance by science diet

I have two beautiful cat brothers- they just turned a year old. I got all their shots, deworming etc through vetco. they have also been neutered. Recently I heard I should be feeding them strictly wet food not kibble- is this true? for some reason
Canned food is recommended because it has a high moisture content and it is a high protein/low carb diet. Cats are obligate carnivores, which means they require protein (of animal origin) and very little to no carbs in their diet. In the wild, the only carbs ingested are typically those eaten by small prey. Many dry foods, by their very nature, are high in carbs which can lead to obesity. You can continue to feed a dry food as long as you choose a grain free or low carb product. Keep them up to date on vaccines, use monthly parasite prevention, feed a healthy diet and provide plenty of exercise and love. Probiotics can be used to promote gut health and won't harm them, however if they have no GI issues then you can skip them.

Wellness, Weruva and Royal Canin are all good choices. When it comes to a canned food, look for one with a named protein source of animal (not plant) origin. Choose a food that comes from the can looking like a hockey puck. Avoid foods with gravies or sauces. These are typically higher in carbs which can predispose a cat to obesity. Avoid meat meals, by-products as well as store or discount brands. These latter two contain low quality ingredients and more fillers.
