I have two corn snakes, one is red the other is albino and as a first-time snake owner, I'd like to know how ill know when they are about to shed and what to do for them during this time. Thank you. Also what is the best type of bedding for them
Just prior to shedding, the skin will become dull and the eyes will turn a cloudy blueish white. The snake will also begin to rub on anything and everything in the enclosure. Increase humidity or provide a moist hide to facilitate shedding. A water bowl should be provided as well. Aspen shavings are ideal for bedding. Avoid anything dusty such as sand or kitty litter.

I have a few questions about an ackie monitor. I want to eventually get one to add to my babies. Right now I have my beardie Loki, he is my baby. Can I build a wire cage with wood bottom half to allow soil nd sand mix for digging? Can I keep his cage
I am very glad that you are looking into husbandry before purchasing an ackie! There is a good care sheet with information on ackies on the Reptiles Magazine website. Based on your location in TX, it may work well to have the ackie outside, but there are a few things to consider. Evaluating the temperature requirements for this species in comparison to the temperatures that you have in your area during the year will be important. We don't want the monitor to get too cold at any point. Thankfully, if needed, supplemental heat sources can also be used outdoors. If these are used, please ensure that they are properly positioned so the ackie cannot access them, and that they are weather-proofed to prevent any electric shock. Also ensure that humidity is high enough in the enclosure - depending on your area, it may need to be supplemented for this species. Congratulations on your new addition! The tank is sufficient for a juvenile, however you will likely need a larger one when Sonora is fully grown. Make sure Sonora can get into and out of the bowl easily to prevent drowning. Place thermometers in the enclosure to monitor temperature. You will need 3. One at the cool side, one on the warm side and one for the basking spot. Hygrometers can also be used to monitor humidity. Ever since Ash shed he hasn’t ate much. He’s only ate a couple worms here and there. The same goes for crickets. I have tried so hard to get him to eat better but he doesn’t seem to want to. What should I do?
Often when a reptile doesn’t want to eat, it is a sign that they don’t feel well. The most common reason behind them not feeling well is imperfections in their husbandry and diet. I would recommend consulting an online care sheet to ensure that your husbandry is as perfect as possible. Common areas of imperfection include temperature, lighting, and humidity. I would also recommend having Ash seen by a veterinarian, as they can help to counsel you about Ash’s husbandry as well. In addition to a thorough physical examination, they may recommend diagnostic testing including radiographs (x-rays) and blood work to evaluate systemic health. Hi, Most likely he will not get impacted, but I would watch him closely for the next few days. I would suggest switching the substrate to something less hazardous like yesterday's news or artificial turf. It may not look as nice as the sand, but is safer. P.S. What a nice pattern Snuggles has :)
