Is IAMS kitten food okay for my skinny adult cat to gain weight?

I suggest you take your cat to a veterinarian for a weigh-in and a wellness exam. Your vet can tell you if your cat is underweight. You can also use a body condition score chart to monitor her body condition as weight alone is not a reliable way to assess a cat's condition. If your vet says your cat is in good condition then you will not need to change food. Should you have to "fatten" her up you should use a complete cat food manufactured by a reputable company such as Iams, Hill's, Royal Canine, etc.. You can feed kitten food for a few weeks until she has the target condition specified by your vet. My cat has diarrhea on weight control food. Should I switch back?

Hello. Holly may have developed diarrhea from the higher fiber content in the weight control diet. I think I might try feeding a 50-50 mix of the 2 foods to see if that controls the diarrhea. If she continues to have loose stools, then adding a probiotic, like Purina's feline Forti Flora might help. If you do switch her back to the regular adult Iams, you will either need to feed her a lesser amount or put some of the kibble into an activity food ball. Thanks for trying to be proactive about Fici's health! It's a shame you cannot get the Metabolic diet shipped to you as this diet is great for weight loss. An Alternative for Fici is Royal Canin Weight Control. I'd recommend feeding an all canned diet as this is more likely to help with weight loss than dry foods. If you cannot find any prescription diets then another type of canned food may still help with weight loss. Best cat food for senior, overweight, indoor cats with tummy issues?

You want to buy a food that is from a reputable company and meets AAFCO standards. Purina ProPlan is an excellent food, one I highly recommend. Not only do they meet AAFCO standards, but they have veterinary nutritionists on staff to ensure the food meets a cat's nutritional needs and run feeding trials. If Kenwood likes Blossom's Purina, it's fine to feed him that as well. You can feed Kenwood a mix of wet and dry food to help him lose a bit of weight. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
