Hello and congratulations on your new friend, King! Parakeets make wonderful pets, and they are a great first bird for a new bird owner. It sounds like you have everything in order, but I'd definitely get King some toys sooner rather than later as parakeets do require mental stimulation - they are very intelligent! Taming will take some time and patience. Using a perch to entice him to step up can be a good place to start, though I recommend waiting a few days to allow him to adjust to his new surroundings first. Yummy treats can be helpful - dried fruits and veggies are a good choice. How would you know what type of food is best for your Budgie? Also what should I always keep a millet stick in their cage?
A commercial pelleted diet is balanced, healthy and convenient. They can be found in most pet stores or online. Quality brands include Harrison's, Roudybush, Lafeber and Pretty Bird. You can supplement the diet with a small amount of a fortified seed mix, fresh greens and vegetables, cooked grains/beans/pastas and plain rice. Budgies and other birds also enjoy some scrambled egg occasionally.

I have two adopted parakeets. I have tried introducing dried fruit, fresh fruit and even millet seeds. They only are interested in regular bird seed. What can i do? It's been months. Thank you
If at first you don't succeed, try try again! Patience and retrying are your best bets. Birds can be picky eaters, and sometimes it takes several introductions of the same thing over and over before they decide to try (and like) it! You may want to try introducing those treats again at different intervals or times of day to see if they eventually start to check it out. In some cases, a bird may never be interested in it, especially if they weren't exposed to it when they were younger, and as long as they have a balanced diet otherwise, that is OK- toys or attention can work great for enrichment as well!

I have nine parakeets 3 adults and 6 baby's about 7 months old and she has 12 eggs in the nesting box. I don't want them any more it to many to take care of. Do pets stores take birds back I just don't know how to get rid of them all nine of them a h
You can just remove any newly laid eggs and discard them if you don't want to hatch any more babies. Many captive birds will continuously lay eggs, so just removing them is fine. If you are looking to rehome some birds, it would be best to put an ad in a local paper, or contact any local stores near you. Most pet stores already have contracts in place with breeders, so you may need to find another option for rehoming them.

Since she is young, consider transitioning her to a commercial pelleted diet such as Harrison's, Lafeber, Pretty Bird or KayTee Exact. You can still supplement with a bit of a fortified seed mix and fresh vegetables and fruits. Moisten pellets with warm water to make a mash and offer to Luna daily. Mix the pellets into her food and gradually increase the amount over a week or two until she is eating mainly pellets.
