Thanks for trying to be proactive about Fici's health! It's a shame you cannot get the Metabolic diet shipped to you as this diet is great for weight loss. An Alternative for Fici is Royal Canin Weight Control. I'd recommend feeding an all canned diet as this is more likely to help with weight loss than dry foods. If you cannot find any prescription diets then another type of canned food may still help with weight loss. Weruva makes canned foods that tend to be lower in calories and are available in pet stores or online. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and good luck with Fici!

Have your veterinarian eliminate underlying medical causes for her cystitis first. You can then discuss using Cosequin sprinkles with your veterinarian. This product is supposed to decrease inflammation and can be sprinkled on food. Also, consider a pheromone product (Feliway plug ins or spray) to decrease any anxiety or stress. Stress plays a big role in FIC, so controlling or eliminating it will help greatly.

Instead of switching food I would first start with adding a tablespoon of plain canned pumpkin to each meal. That is natural fiber and most cats like it and eat it readily. Adjust the amount so the stool is larger, softer and he goes to the bathroom at least once daily. You can also open a capsule of plain Metamucil and sprinkle it on the food to increase fiber. Veterinarians should carry therapeutic diets with extra fiber- Hills makes W/D and Royal Canin makes Fiber Response. If you just want an over the counter food, like for a senior or mature formula, they tend to have a higher fiber content. Kisses to George!

Purina one urinary tract in gravy is a good food. You can also try the urinary tract foods (canned) manufactured by Hill's prescription, Royal Canine or Iams. Sometimes it helps to warm up the food to make it more attractive to Bubba,
