If a food is meant specifically for kittens, it should state on the label that it is for kittens up to one year. Feeding Fancy Feast Classic isn't bad, but your kitten's primary diet should be kitten food, wet or dry. If you decide to go with a primarily dry diet, you can still feed the Fancy Feast as a treat.
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! I would find an "All Stages" food that all the cats can eat. There are many companies that make this kind of food that can be fed to adults and kittens. If you google all stages cat food some will come up. Below is a link for an example, not saying to choose this particular one. https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/wholehearted-grain-free-chicken-formula-dry-cat-food-5-lbs-2668813?&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&adpos=1o5&scid=scplp2668813&sc_intid=2668813&cm_mmc=PLA-GG-_-PTC_P_SUP_PLA-GG_FY17_SCShopping-Wholehearted-Non-Branded-_-Non+VIP-Wholehearted-_-58700004176071259&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&adpos=%7badpos%7d&scid=scplp2668813&sc_intid=2668813&kwid=p35223349871&device=c&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI04iP__Sw3QIVA56fCh19PQa7EAQYBSABEgI90fD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Good luck!
Kittens do the majority of their growth in the first five to six months of life but continue to grow until they are around one year old. During this time of rapid growth and maturation of their bones, it is very important to choose a complete and balanced diet with the appropriate levels of nutrients. Diets formulated for growth include those labeled for kittens or “all life stages.” Canned foods promote increased water consumption in cats, and feeding dry food exclusively or in combination with canned is also acceptable. Offering a kitten with a variety of textures early in life can be helpful in minimizing the chance of having a picky eater. Regardless of diet selection, always make diet changes gradually by mixing the old and new foods together over five to seven days and make sure to carefully measure the appropriate portions of your cat’s food. Abrupt changes have a greater likelihood of resulting in vomiting and/or diarrhea.
I really like Hill's Science Diet, Iams (very inexpensive), or Purina for better options that are much better than Fancy Feast. It is good that you want to go with a wet food, since cats are not big water drinkers. This will help promote good kidney and urinary bladder health. You can also mix in the wet food with dry to help stretch out the wet food and make it even more affordable! IF you are going to transition her to the new food, please make sure to do this over the course of a week to help avoid an upset stomach. Here is a website link on how to do this successfully! https://www.hillspet.com/cat-care/nutrition-feeding/switching-cat-food Best wishes with your furry friend Luna and thanks for visiting Boop by Petco! Take care
Kittens need food formulated for kittens and they should eat it until they are about 10 months of age. After that you can switch the adult formula. I like Purina Proplan food like this one: ( https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/purina-pro-plan-focus-chicken-and-rice-formula-dry-kitten-food )
