Enalapril is the generic form of this medication and it is the same as the enalapril used in humans. Lasinopril is a similar drug, is in the same class, and has a similar mode of action. Ofterntimes it is doctor preference which one is prescribed but occasionally there are reasons to choose one over the other. Enalapril is more commonly used in veterinary medicine. So yes, you could potentially switch to lasinopril but I would definitely speak with the prescribing veterinarian first to make sure there are no specific reasons to avoid it. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco. Best of luck.

Yes, there is a generic called enalapril maleate. You will need to get it from your vet. Just ask them and they can either order it for you, write you a prescription or call it in to a pharmacy for you. It should be much more cost effective. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=535 Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. A single dose of this enalapril to your 110 lb dog will likely be OK, and you should not have to bring him to your veterinarian. Please monitor for any vomiting, diarrhea or weakness, and absolutely have him/her seen by a veterinarian if you notice any of these signs. I hope this is helpful!

I am sorry to hear about Abbey's problems! Enalapril is used for heart disease as well as other problems such as kidney protein-loss and high blood pressure. We do, however, like to monitor kidney values via bloodwork when giving enalapril along with lasix. Side effects of enalapril can include nausea, diarrhea, or inappetance. In some dogs we can see listlessness or lethargy as a result of drop in blood pressure. Some dogs can also get elevations in potassium levels. It would be best to have a more thorough workup if your vet suspects fluid in the lungs. A cough can be the result of numerous causes in older dogs and the only way to truly tell if there is fluid buildup in the lungs would be an x-ray. The x-ray would also let us evaluate heart size and check for other causes of coughing (infection, tracheal disorders, chronic bronchitis, masses). Depending on what is seen on the x-ray, an ultrasound of the heart may also be recommended (if we do see enlargement of the heart an
