Thanks for reaching out with all of your questions. The cage that you have listed would be an appropriate size, however one thing that should be ensured is that it needs to be powder coated. This is important as heavy metal toxicity from chewing on the cage is fairly common in parrots. For sleeping, birds need to have complete darkness and quiet. This means that yes, an audiobook would keep your bird awake. As far as flying - this depends on the bird. Many Amazons do not fly a great deal, and need to be strongly encouraged to exercise. It is very effective exercise to have a bird fly, but you will need to ensure that the environment is safe for them. Ensure that doors are closed, there are no ceiling fans turned on, that all toilet lids are closed, and that no cooking is occurring. So this is kinda strange my parakeets manage to snap the long stick in half and shave it down on a certain spot quite a bit they have a block so they can shave their claws and beaks so I don't know why they snap the stick also I realize in the pictur
It is not uncommon for birds to chew at one particular spot on a perch. It looks like you have a number of wooden dowel perches in the cage - you could try to vary these by providing Manzanita wood perches (they look more like branches) and this may provide them with some areas that they can clean their beaks and wear their nails as well. For your question about the food dishes - it is very common for birds to only utilize materials (including food, water, toys, and perches) that are at the top of their cage. The reason for this is that they typically live in the trees, so they like to be high up the majority of the time. I would advise removing the dishes that are down low, and only providing dishes high in the cage. Small parrots should be fed a varied diet with a commercial pelleted diet being the base. A fortified seed diet can be offered in limited quantities to prevent obesity and finicky eating. Most fresh fruits and vegetables can be offered daily as well. Favorites are grapes, apple, cooked egg and pasta. Limit fruit to prevent loose droppings. The cage should be cleaned weekly, if not more frequently depending on how messy she is. Provide different sized perches to exercise her feet. Parrots are chewers so care must be taken that they don't chew wires or toxic plants. Provide plenty of bird safe chew toys and other toys to keep her engaged. Rotate them out to prevent boredom. Parakeets, also called Budgerigars, are small members of the parrot family and they can become good mimics. The average adult size is 7 inches long, head to end of tail. The average life span is between 10 to 20 years with proper care. A well-balanced Parakeet diet consists of: Specialized pellets should make up 60-70% of diet, fresh vegetables and fruits and small amounts of fortified seeds Clean, fresh, filtered, chlorine-free water, changed daily. Do not feed birds: avocado, fruit seeds, chocolate, caffeine or alcohol; it can cause serious medical conditions. Avoid sugar and high fat treats. Things to remember when feeding your Parakeet: Fresh food and water should always be available. Vegetables and fruits not eaten within a few hours should be discarded. Remember, treats should not exceed 10% of total food intake. Housing Parakeets acclimate well to average household temperatures, not to exceed 80°F; be cautious of extreme temperature changes.
