Dog's seasonal allergies: Should I use Apoquel or increase Prednicare?

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Sorry to hear about Lily's allergies. I would highly advice that you consider Apoquel. This medication is very effective to decrease the itch and help with the clinical signs associated with allergies that you describe. The best thing about Apoquel besides its efficacy is that you can stop it at any point so you can consider using it just for the time being while she is affected by allergies the most. That is how I use it for my own dogs and they are going great. Good luck and have a nice day!

Is Apoquel good for dog anxiety and allergies, or just allergies?

Thanks for using Boop by Petco. First off, if Benedryl is working for the allergies, I would absolutley stick with that. It is by far the safest and cheapest option. And, it can help some with the anxiety. Talk to your vet to be sure you’re using the right dose though- it’s much higher than a human dose. Secondly, Apoquel is awesome in terms of allergies but will do nothing for anxiety. That being said, if some of the anxiety and heavy breathing is due to being itchy and uncomfortable, that may improve with the apoquel. Hope this helps. Best wishes to you and Rowan!

My dog still scratches on Apoquel. Can I use OTC allergy meds?

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! While apoquel is a great drug to stop scratching and to help atopic dermatitis it doesn't do anything in the face of a skin infection. Coco should be checked to see if she now has a yeast and or bacterial skin infection. There is also the option of doing an injection for scratching called cytopoint, which lasts 30-60 days (dog dependent). I would also consider adding Omega 3 fish oils and changing her diet to a non-chicken based novel protein diet (try venison, lamb, fish). My dog has severe grass allergies. Need affordable Apoquel options?

Poor Tank! Allergies can be so frustrating. There is another product that is a monthly injection called cytopoint. Sometimes this can be more economic then apoquel. You may want to ask your veterinarian about this product. You may also want to visit with your veterinarian about adjusting the apoquel dose. Apoquel isn't working for my dog's itchy paws & red eyes. Supplements?

In addition to the apoquel you can give omega 3 capsules, a total of 2000 mg daily. This will reduce inflammation and improve his coat also. Bathing in mild hypoallergenic shampoo weekly will help too. In addition keep him busy with toys and exercise as the more he licks his feet and rubs his eyes the worse it gets.
