In addition to the apoquel you can give omega 3 capsules, a total of 2000 mg daily. This will reduce inflammation and improve his coat also. Bathing in mild hypoallergenic shampoo weekly will help too. In addition keep him busy with toys and exercise as the more he licks his feet and rubs his eyes the worse it gets. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for Tig.

Allergies in dogs can be caused by food but also commonly to environmental allergens. So, a lot of dogs need multimodal treatment. A diet trial for food allergy means you either have to feed a hydrolyzed diet (like hills Z/D or purina HA as examples) or a novel diet (with protein and carb sources that are uncommon, like Royal canin venison/potato). A diet trial requires feeding only that diet for 2 months. No other food, treats, etc. You also need to watch for ingredients in meds, like beef in some heartworm prevention, etc. Chicken, beef, and lamb are very common food allergens. Keep in mind lack of response to a food trial either means that food has an allergen or food allergy is not the cause. I agree with you that all other measures should be tried before Apoquel, and if itching is her main issue you can talk to your vet about a Cytopoint injection to help this. Another option is to see a dermatologist. I hope this helps and thank you for using Boop by Petco!

Dogs can develop allergies, just like humans. Try starting her on an omega-3 fatty acid supplement for dogs. It will take about a month to take affect. You should also change her food to one of the die it’s aimed at skin health such as Royal Canin or Nutro. If this does not help, I recommend to discuss other options with your veterinarian. Best of luck.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Sorry to hear about Lily's allergies. I would highly advice that you consider Apoquel. This medication is very effective to decrease the itch and help with the clinical signs associated with allergies that you describe. The best thing about Apoquel besides its efficacy is that you can stop it at any point so you can consider using it just for the time being while she is affected by allergies the most. That is how I use it for my own dogs and they are going great. Good luck and have a nice day!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! The main thing with allergies is that the allergic component needs to be addressed or medications like Apoquel are only going to help just to some extent. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing her allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be
