What fish can I put with my male betta? Are they good tank mates?
It is very difficult to see the markings of these fish from the pictures. Many fish may be able to live with a Betta if there is a large enough tank. Here are some guidelines on how to pick tabkmates for a Betta. No nibblers – if a fish nibbles at a Betta fish they will get bit back! Bigger fish and colorful fish could be seen to be intimidating – you don’t want to intimidate a fighting fish! Hello, I recommend checking water quality parameters first for any fish displaying abnormal behavior. For starters, I'd recommend keeping your fish in a larger tank as it is much easier to keep the water clean over time. Is Imagitarium UV purified water safe and nutritious for my betta?
Yes, this is fine for a Betta tank. You should still use a small filter as well as a small submersible heater to maintain water temp. Bettas do best between 78 F and 80 F. If you choose to use tap water, use an appropriate water condition to remove harmful chemicals and heavy metals.

Is water conditioner necessary for my betta's tap water changes?
Yes, tap water may contain chlorine or chloramine. Either can be toxic. Chlorine will dissipate if water is left out for 24-48 hours. This is called aging. Chloramines (used by many municipal water systems) will not dissipate and must be removed chemically with a water conditioner. StressCoat by API or NovAqua Plus by Kordon are both adequate conditioners. Look in the aquarium section of the local Petco or fish store for them.

My old Betta fish has white spots and is hiding. How can I treat him?
Maintain pristine water quality via filtration and regular partial water changes. Use only conditioned water that is temperature matched to prevent further stress or shock. Bettas do best between 78 F and 80 F. You can try an "all in one" product, such as Lifeguard by Tetra, to treat the condition. Find it in the local Petco or online.
