Review this Product
Customers say
Customers praise this filter for quiet operation, easy installation with strong suction cups, and effective water clarity in smaller tanks, particularly 20-gallon setups. Many find it suitable for small turtles, axolotls, and invertebrates. However, a substantial portion report inadequate filtration power for turtles, citing constant water dirtiness and high ammonia levels. Several experience mechanical failures, with motors humming without filtering or units malfunctioning within days. Some receive defective units requiring replacement. Overall, reviewers remain divided, with most appreciating performance in small tanks but many questioning reliability and suitability for turtle-keeping.

Questions
Why are the only positive reviews from people who were part of a promotion? Does anyone who purchase this have a positive experience, other than those being paid for it?
- I didn’t get paid to review, just haven’t been around to doing it. I have three aquatic turtles in total, in two tanks. I have the 40 gal one. It does it’s job. Turtles are dirty creatures, so I do have to change the filter twice a month and clean the actual filter once a month. It’s quiet. Only problem I have with it is the suction cups aren’t very strong, as I do have to push it back on the glass every now and then.

I have a 40 gal tank and the tank is not full of water so it might actually have 30-35 gal water. Should I get the 20 or 40 gal filter?
- I would always go bigger - so a 40 gallon.

I purchased the 40 gal zilla internal filter. It started working very well from the beginning. It's making some strange gurgling noises and spitting water out of the top. I just cleaned the tank and changed the filter. Is there something else I can do?
- If you still have it, try and see if the black part on the inside, the case, not the little filter harness, will easily slide free of the green outer layer. Then, ensure that the motor is properly connected to the bottom of the filter. I had this problem with a brand new one I got, it had simply fallen apart/wasn't glued at all.The little tube on the motor slid right back into place with a little push, then I slid the whole thing back down in the green part and it started working as normal. Make sure you cut off power before taking it apart.

Can this filter be used for fish tank
- No, we do not recommend this for a fish tank. For aquarium filters, we recommend checking out our sister company Aqueon!

does this have suction cups to stick onto the glass or does it have to clip over the top of the tank
- Suction cups on the side to stick onto the glass

Does this filter work better if fully submerged? I ask because the level of water in the tank is less than 8". Or can it be installed on it's side?
- The filter needs to be vertical and the water level should be below the output. It is not intended to be fully submerged.

why is someone using something that is rated for a 20 gal tank in a 10 gallon and also i have 2 turtles in a 20 gal tank and ready to get a second 20 gal to separate cause they are getting to big to be together.
- The reason some people use a higher filtration on their tanks is because it's better to have more than Less also depends on the type of animal. Some fish / amphibious critters have more of a waste output causing ammonia to spike.
