Customers say

Customers overwhelmingly praise this hydrolyzed protein formula for transforming dogs with severe allergies, gastrointestinal sensitivities, and chronic skin issues. Reviewers report dogs stopped vomiting, eliminated diarrhea, healed skin lesions, and resolved ear infections within days or weeks. Many describe shiny coats, reduced itching, and dramatically improved energy levels. However, a notable group reports adverse reactions following a recent formula change, including vomiting, explosive diarrhea, and hot spot outbreaks. Despite this divide, most customers consider the health benefits worthwhile and recommend the product for sensitive dogs.

No more paw licking

My sweet old boy has been on HP for years. His allergies were mild but did not respond to Apoquel or cytopoint. He would wake me up licking his paws excessively. Since starting HP, we have not had any issues! No other diet has been able to let us both sleep through the night.

My dogs do so well on the HP diet! No GI, skin or ear issues, which were chronic for them. I’ve tried other brand’s but they don’t do well on them. Royal Canin is my go to for my own pets & I also recommend it for my patients.

I purchased a bag six months ago for my dog, a Maltese. She was constantly having itchy ears and feet. She also had bouts of diarrhea. I saw a remarkable change within three weeks. Now, six months later, my dog no longer gets diarrhea, rarely licks her feet, or has ear issues. This diet is wonderful. I would definitely recommend this diet to anyone having similar issues.

I am a veterinarian and I have two boys, one 10 and one 11, who are completely unrelated to each other. They both had significant skin issues, one even has esophageal spasms related to food issues. We were using other oral meds like apoquel and zenrelia that helped but my biggest boy (85 pounds!) does NOT like pills and the cost was adding up. We tried low allergy foods by both science diet and Purina (both good foods but in the case of these two boys it just didn’t cut it). Royal Canin has had there issues under control for almost 8 years now! I recommend this diet regularly! They love the taste and their issues are fixed. 100% recommend!

Royal Canin Canine HP Review

Millie was started on HP October of 2023, after failed attempts to control her allergic dermatitis with Apoquel and Cytopoint. Millie did a food elimination trial, eating only HP for 12 weeks and introducing one protein at a time. We found she had an allergy response to chicken, beef, turkey, pork, salmon, etc. We did not find a single "safe" protein to feed, and she has continued on the diet since, doing phenomenal on it! We have been able to discontinue the Apoquel daily, and stretch Cytopoint injections to every 12 weeks- with no breakthrough itching, or other signs of allergies. I have nothing but good things to say about this diet, and am beyond thankful it is safe to feed her long term.

I got a bag of this a little over a month ago and I am so happy I made the switch. My dog loves it and he is not breaking out in rashes and hives any longer. He is living his best life! Switching from different brands and different flavors to find something that did not flare up his allergies has been such a struggle the last few years. I am so pleased we found this option and that our Vet recommends it.

I have a German Shepherd.....anyone in the veterinary world knows these guys are poster children for GI issues and skin allergies. Most of the time Royal Canin's German shepherd food has been perfect for all the GSD's I've had over the years.....sadly my littlest girl struggled to maintain weight, bloating off an on diarrhea etc. When I switched her to other diets she still seemed to still have issues. This is the one I've found she does the best on. No longer does she have the issues. Its been almost a year and we have had no issues other than when she gets into something she shouldn't have.

Questions

1 - 5 of 5 Questions

For this product do we need a vet prescription to buy it or are you guys in charge of calling my dog's vet clinic for permission to this product Or do you prefer a prescription that my dog' doctor prescribe it?

  1. You have to have a prescription to purchase this item.  If you have a hard copy you can provide during purchase process.  Otherwise Petco can reach out to your vet to verify your pet has been prescribed this product.

My dogs are used to a dry food topped w/boiled chicken & carrots or sardines or eggs. Meds in peanut butter. What can I give them in addition to the hp dry food?  They’re confused by plain dry food.

  1. My shepherd has similar experience. Hard boiled eggs and cheese on kibble and meds with peanut butter. Now I use the canned Royal Canin HP to give my shepherd her meds. I mush the pill into a ball of the canned food. Plus I put some of the canned in with her kibble. She has adapted to the change and seems OK with the new diet.

Looking everywhere and can't find any store with this in stock. I'm running low. I was able to order a bag (small) however it is also a week out and will still take time to get to me. In the future, is there ANY alternative to this food? dry or wet? Thanx

  1. Unfortunately, I don’t know. My Labrador mixed German Shepherd was very itchy so my Vet recommended this formula and it did make a big positive difference! I think the best person to answer your question is your dog’s vet. Sorry, I couldn’t help you better

what is the main protein?

  1. Hydrolyzed soy and chicken

How many cups of food are in a 25 lb bag of HP dog food

  1. There are approximately 133 cups per bag
