Customers say

Customers overwhelmingly praise this UV sterilizer for rapidly transforming green, cloudy water into crystal-clear conditions within 2 to 7 days, with many seeing results in 24 to 48 hours. Reviewers describe it as highly effective across tank sizes from 10 to 75 gallons, with nearly 90% expressing strong satisfaction and recommending it as a reliable solution for algae and bacterial blooms. Installation is consistently noted as straightforward and hassle-free. A small number report minor issues like non-functioning bulbs or insufficient power for larger tanks, but most consider it a worthwhile investment for restoring tank clarity.

UV bulb died after 2 months

Annoyed

I bought this two months ago and while it did help initially, the bulb has already burned out and my algae issue has returned with a vengeance. Spending $30+ every two months for a bulb replacement is ridiculous. Don’t recommend.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Very impressed with this product. I had green water algae and purchased a different brand uv sterilizer and it did not clear the issue after 3 weeks. After buying the GKM i noticed a difference in the first 24 hours. I'm on day 5 and my water is extremely clear about 95%. Will never use another product again. Highly recommend.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Eliminates both green and white water cloudiness

BobZ

By day 5, the heterotrophic bacteria that was clouding my 20g aquarium for several weeks was completely eliminated and the water became crystal clear. As an added bonus, leaving the UV filter on for 8 hours/day has also eliminated the algae spores that caused algae from covering the plants and rocks. Now, the aquarium is significantly free of algae. Biweekly water changes are a breeze.

Yes, I recommend this product.

From white clouds to ultra clear water in 5 days

BobZ

The GKM9w, left on for 5 days, effectively removed the hetertrophic bacteria that was causing a persistent white cloudiness in my 20 gal. aquarium. I tried adding filter floss to my mechanical filter, but that had only minimal success. In addition to keeping the UV light on during the 5 day period, I reduced the amount of food. I was probably overfeeding the fish resulting in organic matter that was feeding the bacteria. The water is crystal clear. I will run the UV filter for about 8 hours/day to maintain this perfect environment.

Yes, I recommend this product.

This product is amazing! I’ve have it at least 6 months now and it’s still holding strong! And honestly, if it broke tomorrow, and I had to buy a new every six months, I would happily do it. It makes aquarium care so much easier, in a nontoxic way!!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 10 of 110 Questions

How easy to clean device?

  1. Super easy to clean comes apart several piece so you can soak in hot vinegar water and scrub with toothbrush

This replaced another that failed and it doesn't seem to be doing much; the water flow is very low. How much water flow is normal and how do I tell it is working? The light is on, but the water quality is worsening rapidly, like when the other failed.

  1. The small blue filter pad on the outside of your unit might need cleaning. Or the UV lamp inside is beginning to fail. The replacement UV lamp is around 10$. In my experience these last about 4 -6 months before lamp failure if run all the time. These units are low flow so you might not be able to detect water movement. It is always possible the unit you are currently using is faulty, but improbable. I would A. Clean the unit/filter pad. Then B . replace UV bulb. And make sure your green killing machine is rated for your tank size. If these do not fix, then you might need a whole unit. Good luck to you and your fishes.

Can this be used in a saltwater tank with corals?

  1. The GKM can use in both freshwater & saltwater aquariums. There's no chemical inside the GKM and it helps to clean water by the UVC lamp. Recommend to connect to a timer & operate 8 hours a day, this helps to improve UVC lamp life.

Hello. My tank is very green and I trying to find a way to fix it. But I’m not sure how to when I have baby fish and baby snails.  Would this pump be safe to use with babies in the tank?  I don’t want them to get sucked in.

  1. If you look at the picture, you can see the blue, coarse sponge that goes over the intake. I feel that most babies would not get sucked through this sponge.

What size tubing can fit on this pump and is it outdoor safe? I need something to stop algae growth for my 30 gallon outdoor pond.

Is this 9 watt appropriate for my 60 gallon reef tank for dinoflagellates?  With all the rock in my all-in-one tank I probably have closer to 50 gallons in my main display.

    1. Hi Max, we will recommend 24W size for over 50 gallons aquarium. In your case, you can still use but may take longer time to see result.

Why wont mine come on anymore after I hook everything up again? It had been working fine then one day just would not start again.

    1. It may be that the bulb needs replacing from what the info that came with my package says.  The replacement is sold as the bulb in the sealed bulb housing, you can’t open it and just replace the bulb. Hope that helps.

I love this product. It cleared my 40 to 50 gallon tank in two days. How do I maintain it?

    1. Clean it every 3 months or so, and change and clean the little sponge filter.

Can this be used outdoors will be occasionally exposed to rain?

    1. This is not the right product for outdoors.

I've been having an issue with stubborn brown algae in my 15 gal tank. And now I see some brown algae spots starting to appear in my 9 gal. Would this product help with brown algae (Diatoms)?

    1. This product kills bacteria and algae by exposing the water to UV light. A small pump pushes the water through the UV light housing, so you or the fish are NEVER exposed to the UV light itself. My 50 gallon tank sits outdoors, so you can imagine the Algae growth. While this unit does not stop 100% of the algae growth, there is no question that it slows it down substantially (instead of changing water every week, I can do it every 3 weeks...)
