The Aqueon LED Deluxe Full Hoods are designed to fit specific standard aquarium sizes, and unfortunately they are not sized for a 40 breeder tank. A 40 breeder has different dimensions (typically around 36" x 18"), while the available hood sizes (20", 24", and 30") are made for tanks like 10 gallon, 20 gallon, 29 gallon, and similar standard formats. Because these hoods are built to sit snugly inside the aquarium frame, even small differences in size or shape will prevent a proper fit. The difference comes down to how the hood is designed to fit. The Aqueon LED Deluxe Full Hood is made to sit inside the aquarium’s inner rim, not on top of the outer edges. Because of that, the listed depth (~9.6") reflects the inside opening of the tank frame, not the full outside dimension of the aquarium (which is about 13.5" on an Aqueon standard glass 29 gallon aquarium). In other words, the plastic frame around the top of the aquarium takes up some of that width, so the usable opening is smaller than the full tank measurement. The hood is sized specifically to fit that inner lip snugly, which helps reduce evaporation and keeps it secure. So even though the numbers look mismatched at first, the 30" hood is correctly designed to fit a standard 29 gallon Aqueon tank. This hood comes in 20 inch, 24 inch, & 30 inch sizes. The Aqueon 20 gallon high tank uses the 24 inch size and the Aqueon 20 gallon long tank uses the 30 inch size.

It is great for very low light requiring plants. A second tube can be added to increase light intensity, but would still be low compared to most plant requirements. Anubias, Java moss, Java fern, and hornwort grow well under this lighting.

Yes they do have hoods for 10 gallon tanks.
