Senior hamster suffering. How much is euthanasia and where's a vet?

If Nibbles had not already passed away and is still showing the same symptoms you mentioned above then I suggest you take her to your vet to be euthanized humanely. You don't want her to suffer. Just letting animals pass at home sounds nice and peaceful but that is not often the case. Usually they are suffering. Again, my apologies for no one responding to you sooner. Unfortunately we are not an emergency service and not all the vets on this forum are comfortable answering questions about hamsters. Best wishes.

Morty sounds really bad, and leaving him like this would be cruel. Dying is not a pain free process. He has to see a vet now, even if it's just to put him to sleep. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

It does depend on where you live but on average I would say an exam is about $30-70, but could be higher for an exotic specialist. If you are on a budget, it is worth calling around your area - and I would also ask if they are comfortable treating hamsters as not all vets are! I hope this helps!

Your hamster, by now, is a very old hamster and practically at the late stage of his life. You need to weigh up how his recovery from the first surgery was and how long it took. It may be more humane to not put him through surgery again and let him live his last months of life as well as possible, There is pain medicine that can be given for a while if you think he is in pain. Finally, once he stops eating and/or you feel he is suffering, you can give him the best gift by euthanasia to stop his suffering. Should you have the tumor removed, it very likely will come back again, and it is also not a given that he makes it through anesthesia. I am sorry about the situation, you are taking good care of your baby and diseases like this always are traumatic to the animal as well as the owner.

Spinner needs to see a vet. If this is something that can be treated then she may be able to live a normal life. If this is not something that can be treated they can offer humane euthanasia. The whole point is that we don't want her to suffer. I suggest you contact the Humane Society of New York. Chewie sounds very sick, and I am so sorry that this is happening. From what you are describing, she needs to see a veterinarian immediately. She can then be evaluated to see if there are any possible treatments for her, and if there are not, they can assist with euthanasia if that is needed or desired by you to ease her suffering. 18 months is an older age for a hamster, so that may be related to why she is getting sick. The material around her nose may be making it hard for her to breathe as well - if she tolerates it, you can clean the material off with a warm, wet cloth, but be careful so that she doesn't panic or struggle when you do it since she is already having a hard time breathing. The veterinarian can also clean this off for you as well. I am so sorry again - it is never easy to have a pet get sick.

It does sound as if Elmo is very ill. If you want to determine what is going on and have potential treatment options then going to the vet will be the best plan. However, it is important to keep in mind that Elmo is a very advanced age for a hamster, normal life expectancy is 2 years and he has already exceeded this. I hope this helps.
