My rat keeps scratching his painful wound. How can I help him?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rat | Male | unneutered

My rat has an injury that he has had before we got him. It is healing as there is pink skin around it, but he keeps scratching it and making it bleed, which is causing him a lot of pain. He often whines and squeaks in pain. What can I do to help him with the pain

You can use Tylenol liquid at 90mg per pound of body weight every 12 hours. If you need help with dosing please post again and tell us Odie's weight and the strength of Tylenol liquid you have (please post a photo).

I would also use this wound spray on him until healed.
