My rabbit isn't playful, has gunky eyes and a runny nose. Is she sick?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | unspayed | 7 years and 7 months old

Hello I have a rabbit and she’s normally very playful. She has gunky eyes and her nose is starting to run too. I’m worried it might be Mitsi. If so, is there a cure? She’s almost 7 years old and never has had anything wrong with her. Today she’s not playful. She’s still eating and drinking.

Myxomatosis causes lumpy lesions around the eyes and genitals so it seems unlikely. I think it is likely the rabbit has a response infection which is fairly common. They get pasturella in their lungs which needs to be treated with antibiotics. I would make her a vet appointment asap.

Hi, in myxomatosis skin ocular lesions are more like nodules. Rabbits can be affected by a parasite that causes uveitis and different eye lesions more compatible to Tush ocular appearance however it is best to have your vet to take a look at him !
