Why is my mouse breathing fast, unresponsive, and has frozen hair?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Male | 1 year and 5 months old

Hi i would like to ask you if my mouse is ok or not because last two days she has like frozen hair and she is sometimes standing on one place without moves. When she is standing or lying on the same place without moves she is not sleeping but she doesn’t react and she is breathing so fast because i can see her belly how is smaller and bigger so fast. She is fast breathing without voices or something similar. Thank you for your opinion.

This sounds as if your mouse is having some sort of seizure like episode either from an underlying neurological issue or an episode of low blood sugar. If Rainy is eating well and acting normally otherwise I would not be too concerned. If however, Rainy is having other issues, I would recommend taking him to your veterinarian to be examined and to see if there is anything you can do for him.

I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
