How long after birth should I leave my pregnant hamster alone?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Female | spayed | 9 months and 22 days old | 1lb

Hey I think my little hamster is pregnant and I’m just wondering when do you stop handling her I don’t think she likes the idea me not bothering with her as I give her a lot of my attention I have put her into a quiet room and cleaned her cage yesterday the last time she was pregnant she killed her babies I’m worried this will happen a second time I think it was due to the little house she had in her cage as it was far to small this is the 13th day do you leave her alone until two weeks afterb?

Hello,

I'd recommend leaving Nibbles alone for at least one week after she gives birth. However, eating young is very common in hamsters and may not be preventable.

I hope this is helpful. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
