What temperature is too cold for a hamster with AC on in the room?

If the hamster is indoors and the heating will go on , there is no such risk. Remember they have their fur to help them keep warm. I had a few hamsters who suffered heat stroke, so I would also be careful not to overheat him. Make sure that he has enough food and water , and that the water can not be spilled. Maybe it would be sensible for someone just to pop in once a day to make sure that he is fine, it is always a big responsibility to look after someone else's pet !

There are some environmental things that can make hamsters shake, including temperatures, as you mentioned. Ideally, around 70-75 F is a range to keep hamsters in. Also, making sure their cage is not near a window or door to avoid excessive heat and drafts is a good idea. Too little bedding can also contribute to shaking - ideally, hamsters would have at LEAST 3-4 inches of bedding to dig/burrow into. Please avoid cedar and pine shavings as they can be irritating to a hamster's respiratory tract (lungs). Being sick can also make hamsters shake. Unfortunately, shaking is a vague sign, so there are numerous causes - a common one is weight loss associated with disease as they can become skinny which makes it hard for them to keep warm as well. I would recommend making any of the environmental changes above, and if there is no improvement in a couple of days, having Bebe evaluated by a veterinarian. They will be able to see if Bebe is thin, and perform a full physical exam. Depending on what is found, they may recommend diagnostic testing, or may have treatments for you to try. It's probably unlikely that Duchess got sick from being in an air conditioned room unless the room was so cold that her immune system was suppressed. That being said, I appreciate your concern for Duchess! Ideally most cats would probably prefer temperatures between 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit. I don't generally recommend to do this. Another animal could break into the cage and harm the hamster. The temperature may get too cold or too hot. It's best to keep it inside where it is safe and the temperature is controlled. I hope this helps.

If they are sneezing but otherwise eating, drinking and acting normally I would not be too concerned. I would recommend adding a humidifier to their room to help moisten the air. This may help with their respiratory issues. If the sneezing becomes excessive, they become lethargic, or stop eating, you will have to take them to the vet because they will likely need antibiotics. I’m so sorry that Cookie isn’t doing well. It sounds like he may be sick. There are several things that could be going on like an infection, cancer and more. It is hard to say whether he is dying without doin an exam on him. It does worry me that he is cold though. If you are able to take her to the vet then I would. The vet will be able to tel Lyon what is wrong and whether he can be helped with some medicine. I hope this helps!

I am not sure how warm it has become in your house, but I think that what you have done is a good place to start. Hamsters are most comfortable when housed between 65-75F, so if it was warmer than this, it can cause them to not want to burrow. Since you also feel like his testicles may be more swollen, I would recommend watching these closely for changes. They may be hanging lower and appear larger due to the heat, but once you have cooled the temperature in your house, they should go back to a normal position. If they continue to appear swollen, or if the activity levels continue to be abnormal, I would recommend having Ralphie evaluated by a veterinarian.
