My hamster has a soft lump on its side. Is it overweight?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 7 months old

I just noticed that my hamster Odin (male 1 1/2 years old) has a lump on his right side. He's only had it a few days. I don't know if it's just because he's overweight. I doesn't feel necessarily hard. I feels just like the rest of his body.

Thanks for reaching out about Odin and including photos. This does not appear to be due to being overweight, as that would likely be symmetrical. An internal mass is likely, and could involve a kidney, liver, intestines or other organ. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Monitor appetite, urination and defecation.
Good luck.
