My hamster has a red, scabby bump on its foot. Should I take it to the vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Female | 0.5 lbs

My hamster has a bump on her back foot, on her toe. Yesterday it looked puss filled, and today it looks like it popped and reformed, the skin around it is red and it kind of looks like a scab, I’ll attach photos. Do we need to take her to a Vet or is there anything we can do? Will it heal on its own? Thanks!

With the swelling, I would be concerned that Midnight has an abscess. I think it would be a good idea to take her into the vet for antibiotics. This should make the infection clear up quickly. Otherwise it could take weeks to heal and it can rarely become chronic which means it does not heal. I hope this helps!
