My hamster has a red, hairless area around his bottom. Is he sick?

Ive got a pet hamster and I'm unsure is he's sick or not. Just recently I noticed this area around his bottom and it is red and hairless. Should I be alarmed? I'm sorry if my explanation is bad but I don't really know how else to explain it

That area could be inflamed because of diarrhoea for example or because of a skin infection (commonly bacterial infection or due to mites infestation).
A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately.
