Why does my hamster have a bleeding lump with a hole near her bottom?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Other | Unknown - Other | Female | 5 months and 17 days old

My robo (I think female) hamster has a lump on the side of her stomach close to her vagina/bottom and tail, it has a hole in it and it looks like it's been bleeding. She won't let me take a look to show a photo.

I am sorry to hear about Trixie. Unfortunately without seeing her for an exam it is very difficult to determine the cause. Possibilities would include an abscess (pocket of infection), a tumor, or if she is outdoors at all or around flies we can also see a fly larvae called a cuterebra cause a swelling with a small hole (which the larvae breaths through). I would recommend an exam by a veterinarian because all of these things require examination to diagnose and treat.
