My guinea pig has black specks & yellow crust after lice. What is it?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Female | spayed | 20 lbs

My guinea pig had lice, treated her twice and now she has little black specks near her rear end that won’t come off even in the bath. Also when combing her today there seemed to be yellow crust on her near bum, should I be concerned?

Thanks for reaching out about Lexy. The specks could be nits (lice eggs) or scabs. Not sure about the yellow crusts, but could be residual from self grooming. If continues to be a concerns, a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide treatment options.
Good luck.
