Guinea pig abscess: Can I treat it at home or should I see a vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 4 months old

Hi there, I have a Guinea Pig with an abscess. I was wondering if you provided services to exotic pets and small animals? If not are there any home treatments I could give him? Thanks for your time!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry to hear Pickle has an abscess. I would recommend looking into veterinarians who treat pocket pets in your area, as an abscess typically requires antibiotics and other supportive care (such as an anti-inflammatory) to heal. In the meantime, I would gently warm compress the area. Good luck!
