He should be examined by your veterinarian to rule out any medical causes for his weight loss. Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth. Feed a good quality ferret diet (not cat food, dog food, etc). Feed him frequently until he is at an appropriate weight, then cut back if necessary.

I am sorry Alice is not feeling well. With her being an older ferret I would recommend taking her to a vet for some basic blood work and an exam. Older ferrets can get adrenal disease which can cause hair loss but typically they gain weight. However, infection, virus, cancers, kidney disease and even gastric upset can cause weight loss and abnormal behavior. I really think she needs some testing and good exam to help point you in the right direction. I hope she feels better soon

Hello. Weight loss of that amount is, unfortunately, going to require some investigation. If the cat’s feeding routine has basically remained unchanged, he has been dewormed....then we need to be looking for other, more serious problems. A thorough physical exam, bloodwork and possibly x-rays. He will likely need sedation for all of this, so presenting him to the vet in a humane trap that he can be sedated while still in the trap is the safest method for all involved. Reasons for dramatic weight loss could include diabetes, intestinal diseases, kidney or liver issues, cancer, etc. I deal with feral cats all the time and it is relatively simple to sedate them through the trap in order to do any procedures necessary. Hi there! It sounds very much like Odin's hair loss could be from a flea problem. Have the fleas been treated on your pet as well as in your home? While ferret's can very well have seasonal allergies, this is more unlikely than just a residual problem from fleas (going on the information you have supplied). The shoulder area redness, especially is probably from scratching since it is an easy place to reach.
