New ferret throwing up and shivering: Is it serious or contagious?

I agree it is difficult to pinpoint what is the problem with Fera. I wonder if she had any episodes of vomiting or weight loss, or has she been sneezing at all ? Any changes in her appetite ? Has she had any blood tests done ? If you can I would recommend to chose to go for further investigations, as the symptoms are quite vague but at the same time we don’t want Fera to become too poorly ! In order to answer your question, a consultation with one of our exotics vet might be your second option, providing as many details as possible would help formulating a differential list of conditions.

Without more of a history, it is difficult to determine if this is cause for concern. Monitor for lethargy, discharge from the eyes/nose/mouth, decreased appetite, fever, loose stool or weight loss. Since they are "new" to you, an exam with your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating ferrets would be recommended. At the very least, Wednesday will get a clean bill of health and you will get peace of mind.

It could be stress related to the new home, but given her age, she should be examined by your veterinarian tonight. A young ferret can quickly become dehydrated which may complicate any underlying condition(s). I'm concerned that there are a couple of problems here. Baby may have gotten a spinal cord injury causing her to not walk and she may have a collapsed lung that is causing her to have trouble breathing - this would explain why she keeps sticking her tongue out. The shivering indicates that she is very painful. These problems are all considered an emergency, so I recommend you take Baby to a veterinarian as soon as possible. Inappetence and lethargy could be due to a gastrointestinal condition such as gastroenteritis, an infection, cancer, pancreatitis, a gastrointestinal foreign body, among other possibilities. I highly recommend that you have Charlie evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It is definitely concerning that Luna is vomiting. While this may be caused by antibiotics, which commonly cause nausea and/or diarrhea, it is important for other things such as foreign bodies or intestinal parasites to be ruled out.
