Is it safe to feed a sick or poisoned snake to my king cobra?

Unfortunately, not eating is a very non-specific clinical sign. While one snake passed away, this does not necessarily suggest that the other two are ill or not ill. If you have any other reasons to think they are ill, I would suggest you have them examined by a veterinarian in person who is experienced with reptiles, snakes in particular. They will be able to assess them for any evidence of metabolic disease, skin issues, digestive problems, and any thing else that is obviously wrong. For a more in depth analysis, they would have to obtain some blood work to assess the organ function. Hope this helps.

If regurgitates again, a veterinary visit is recommended. Intestinal parasites or infections are not uncommon. Systemic illnesses or husbandry problems (too cold) or diet problems (prey too cold or overheated) are also possible. Discuss your snake's husbandry and diet routine with your veterinarian. Reptiles do harbour a lot of bacteria such as salmonella. If you feel unwell it could be unrelated but best to visit your Dr to be safe. In future I would avoid kissing her and make sure you wash your hands after handling her or her habitat. I would advise against sleeping with r as you could accidentally roll onto her.

As long as it was properly sanitized, it should be safe to use. The diluted bleach, chlorhex and hot water rinse should have cleaned it adequately. Unfortunately, the only definitive method would be swab the tank and culture it. That said, it is *likely* fine to use.

I'm glad you found him! Since he was missing for so long, an exam with your veterinarian or an experienced herp vet would be strongly recommended to diagnose and treat any illness or injury. In the meantime, give him a good soak in a warm 50/50 solution of water and unflavored PediaLyte. This will warm him up and provide hydration. Once he's warm and hydrated, he will be more likely to accept prey.

Thanks for reaching out about Dani. If the temperature of the prey was not correct, she could had tried to eat it, spit it out, then ate it again. This could have left red mucous. The red might have been from the prey, not necessarily her. Monitor for now. Make an appointment with a reptile veterinarian if problems persist. Good luck.
