Is it normal for my crested gecko to flick its tongue and walk slow?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

hi! my crested gecko will often flick her tounge out every couple of seconds (but sometimes she wont do it for 10 minutues), is this normal? Also, she walks SUPER slow when she is out of her cage, (it takes "4 mississippys" for 1 foot to lift up and go back down). She can run very fast, and i have seen her do it when i am handling her, but when she is out and i am near her, but she is not on me, she will walk like i said. My guess it that she thinks im a preditor. Advise?

This is all normal behavior an no cause for concern. Cresties will lick their eyes and noses frequently. Her slow walk is likely her just being cautious. Move slowly and talk softly when you are around her cage.
