My betta is losing color and has shiny silver spots. What's wrong?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Fish | Betta | Male | 4 months and 7 days old

My betta is a baby boy (4monthold) When I first got him he was red with white. 2 months ago his growing fins began becoming blue. Abt 3 weeks ago I see that he began losing his color a bit& began becoming kind of transparent, so I took the water to get checked& the water was good but the store couldnt check for ammonia cause they had ran out of that test(water has conditioner). Last night I notice that he started getting a shiny silver color on 1side of mouth& in gill. But he is acting normal

Thanks for reaching out about Spiderman and including photos. Have the water tested again, including ammonia. Betta pellets should be rotated out every 3 months as vitamins degrade. Lack of pigmentation in the diet can also lead to paling of color. Basic water quality is only minimal, but advanced testing might be needed.
Good luck.
