Should I wait to neuter my Samoyed puppy to avoid hip problems?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Samoyed | Male | neutered | 4 months and 6 days old | 40 lbs

At what age should my Samoyed puppy be neutered? I have heard that if you do it too early (6 months) then there is potential for growth and hip problems.

Great question! The studies about neutering too early causing problems for growth and hips are varied, and there's no consistent evidence yet about this effect. I personally recommend neutering after six months of age and before a year old. You can wait to get Oliver neutered until he is closer to a year old, at which point he will have done a majority of his growth. I hope this helps!
