Is Vetoryl safe for dogs with Cushing's and elevated liver numbers?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Toy Fox Terrier | Male | neutered | 11 years old | 16 lbs

My dog is on Vetoryl for diagnosed Cushing’s. His liver numbers still elevated. I read somewhere that dogs should not take Vetoryl if there is liver disease/damage. Is this true?

Yes, that is true. The FDA says the medication should not be used in dog's with liver disease. That being said, elevated liver numbers (depending on how high they are) may not indicate liver disease, and it may be ok for Oscar to have Vetoryl. I would speak to his vet about your concerns.
