When should I switch my 7-year-old dog to a senior diet?

I recommend the brand Royal Canin. It is highly digestible without fillers so pets generally have only a small amount of stool production. It is also a great brand for healthy coat and skin. I also like the brand Purina Proplan. I hope this helps.

Great question! Generally a senior dog is around seven and eight years of age, but smaller breeds may be considered seniors a little later in life, such as around 10 years of age. You can wait until Grover is at least eight years of age before staring him on a senior food, but if he's healthy and active, you can wait until he is 10. Best of luck, I hope this helps :-)

Happy early birthday to Edward! Cats do tend to start being considered "senior" pets at around 7-8 years old, even if he (hopefully!) isn't acting like it! As cats age, they can develop certain diseases, such as diabetes, skin failure or an overactive thyroid. These can all be diagnosed with bloodwork at your regular veterinarian. If Edward develops any of these, there may be specific dietary recommendations to help him. Otherwise, if he is doing well he can stay on his regular food for a couple more years, unless you are seeing something that is concerning you and making you want to switch him, at which point you should discuss it with his regular veterinarian.

Personally, I like Purina ProPlan and Royal Canin if you're looking for a good quality food that won't be overly expensive. Both of these brands make formulas that are designed for middle-aged and older dogs that would be appropriate for Piper.

Hi there and thanks for posting! I would recommend giving the Royal Canin x-small breed or mini puppy breed puppy food a try and these are more targeted and formulated for small breed puppies. At 9 month to a year of age, you can transition her to an adult formula from Royal Canin such as the formula for adult Maltese or the formula for adult Shih Tzu. I hope this helps!
