Stray dog: Jaw locked, swollen belly, barely breathing. What can I do?

Not eating for 3 days is serious for a puppy. They are not able to regulate blood sugar like an adult and they don't have the same reserves either. The swollen belly could be related and could indicate parasites, a blockage, an infection or a heart condition. I recommend to have your puppy examined today by the veterinarian. My concern would be that if he is having a hard time swallowing then it could progress to having a hard time breathing. Should this happen while you are sleeping it could be catastrophic. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. From the pictures, it does not appear that your dog's gums are pale. Reverse sneezing is OK and can be normal in most pets as long as it is self-limiting. Rapid breathing may indicate that she is trying to pant or cool herself off. If she seems to be exhibiting significant effort to breathe (ie, it looks like she is using her abdomen to help her breathe), this could indicate respiratory disease. I'm not sure what you mean by her stomach being swollen, but if you are worried about potentially fluid in her abdomen, this would be concerning and she should be evaluated by a veterinarian. I would continue to monitor her breathing rate and effort. If at rest she is breathing more than 40 times per minute, or if at anytime it looks like she is using her abdomen to help her breathe, she should see a veterinarian. I hope this is helpful!

Oh dear! These are very concerning signs - I would be worried that Kisses may have a serious problem such as internal bleeding, heart or liver disease, or a severe infection of some kind. I'm afraid that there isn't really anything you can do at home for a problem this serious - she really needs to be seen by a vet immediately. If her regular vet is out of town, I would take her to another vet today for an exam and some diagnostic testing to find out what's wrong.

Sheena should be evaluated by a veterinarian right away! If her belly is swollen she could be suffering from bloat (stomach full of air), a GDV (where the stomach bloats and turns on itself) or she could have fluid in her belly or uterus (pyometra).
