My spayed dog has a lump on her vulva. Is it normal or serious?

It could be Roxy has a cyst. It could be rupturing internally, causing it to fluctuate in size. I would have her seen by a vet for it again. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It looks like Roxy could have a mass and/or an infection. She needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. Your vet can do a needle aspirate and/or biopsy to help diagnose and then treat. It may need to be removed.

I'm concerned this mass could be cancerous and the swollen glands could be in response to that. You need to have Roxie seen by a vet for this first thing in the morning to get this checked out. Best of luck.

This large lump needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take Roara to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.

Thank you for the photo of the lump on the side of Lily's vulva, I can see it clearly in the photo. From the photo, it doesn't appear to be ulcerated, bleeding, or look otherwise "nasty" on the outside. That doesn't necessarily rule out it being a malignant lump, but this appearance is better than it being what I described above, if that makes sense. While there is a chance it could be malignant, given her age, there is also a possibility that it could simply be a benign growth, a good possibility given its appearance. Again, I can't say that for certain, but benign growths and malignant growths tend to have certain characteristics, and appearance can be one of those characteristics (but not always!). Sorry that I can't be more specific, but unfortunately I cannot be specific without seeing her in person. I do think it's good that you are having her seen by a vet for this, especially since it has grown in size a little, and waiting another 10 days does not seem like a big deal in this case. If you are especially concerned, you can ask to be put on the cancellation list, where they can call you a spot opens up sooner. I hope this helps!

It would be a good idea to have the lump removed, as there is always a chance any lump in a senior dog could be malignant. Plus not every type of cancer can be diagnosed with an aspirate, further tests are needed like a biopsy. I hope this helps!

To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. If it is a cyst, it will need to be drained, and it may need to be removed in order to keep it from returning. An abscess will require it to be drained and flushed sterilely, and she would need antibiotics to treat the infection.
